Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with over 1.3 million members in 45,000 clubs in 200 countries.
Lions are men and women who volunteer their time to humanitarian causes. Founded in 1917, the organization's motto is simply, "We Serve."
Worldwide, Lions are recognized for their service to the blind and visually impaired, a commitment to young people, improving the environment, building homes for the disabled, and providing disaster relief around the world.
For over half a century, the Hendrick Hudson Lions Club has provided myriad services to the community, including collecting eyeglasses, hearing aids and mobile phones for recycling, loaning medical equipment to community members, delivering food through Meals on Wheels on Thanksgiving, providing free eye screening at area preschools, and countless other ways.

Preschool Eye Screening Most children are not screened for visiual function before age four, but as many as 5% of preschoolers have visual issues that can lead to amblyopia or other problems. Early detection leads to early treatment.
Through Lions SEE (Screening Eyes Early), members of the Hendrick Hudson Lions Club and their families have provided free photo eye screening to over one hundred local children annually for nearly 40 years.
Sick Loan Closet For years, the Hendrick Hudson Lions Club has maintained a sick loan closet. Community residents in need of medical equipment such as wheelchairs, hospital beds and walkers, are able to borrow it at no cost. For more information or to make a donation, contact sickloan@henhudlions.org.
The Hendrick Hudson Lions Club collects used eyeglasses, hearing aids and mobile phones for recycling. Items are refurbished and distributed to individuals in need, often in impoverished areas of the world. Eyeglasses and mobile phones can be given to any Lions Club member, or deposited in our collection box on Kings Ferry Road in Montrose, outside of the Cortlandt Volunteer Ambulance Corps headquarters.
Easter Egg Hunt Each year, the Hendrick Hudson Lions Club sponsors an Easter Egg hunt that is free to local children and their families. In 2007, over 200 children collected nearly 5,000 eggs filled with candy, toys and prizes.
