A: It is an overnight event designed to bring the community together to support those who have been touched by cancer. We will celebrate with survivors, Show our support for those currently fighting this disease, and remember those who lost their battle.
Q: Do you have to stay all night?
A: No, you leave whenever you want. Stay for a few hours or the whole night, it’s completely up to you.
Q: If I stay the night, what if I fall asleep?
A: It’s perfectly ok! The goal is to have one member of your team up at all times, so you can bring your pillow and relax.
Q: What will be actually doing there?
A: There is a schedule of events listed on the Leos website. However, the main focus is to bring the community together to show our support for all of those who have been touched by cancer. There is strength in numbers, so let’s get together and be there for our neighbors.
B: There will be games and activities going on all night to keep you busy if you want to, including live bands, a DJ, volleyball, relay races, etc. This is also a time to bond with others who have been through the same thing as you. You can laugh, cry, and talk amongst others drawn together by a common cause.
Q: How is money raised?
A: Money can be raised in several different ways. You can have team fundraisers as well as raising money individually. You can ask for a straight (lump) donation, or you can sell something to raise the money. (Fundraising tips are on the web)
B. Money can be given to the team member directly. Checks can be made payable to Hen Hud Leos or Hen Hud Student Activities.
C. Credit card donations can also be made online by visiting the team member’s page. Keep in mind, that the credit card company takes a % of all credit card donations, so checks or cash are preferred.
D: Donations are all lump donations. They are not raised per hour awake.
Q: How will the donations be used?
A: All proceeds will be split between the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital, Make A Wish Foundation, and the Leo Cancer Fund. Detailed information about these organizations can be found on the website. www.henhudleos.org
Q: How and when do we sign up?
A: First decide if you want to create a team, or join one. Then sign up!
B: You should sign up as soon as possible by going to the website. www.henhudleos.org. The sooner you register, the quicker you will be able to recruit your team members and start raising money. There are instructions on the Leos website if you’re having problems creating a team or member page on the fundraising site.
C: If you go to the fundraising page, you will see examples of teams. We have teams for various fire departments, the ambulance corp., sports teams, and teams in honor or memory of someone. You can upload photos to personalize your team and or team member’s pages.
D: If you click on a team, you can then view team members. So, each team member has their own page, and has the ability to show how much money they have received. They can personalize their member page to reflect why the want to participate.
E: If you don’t have access to a computer, you can call 736-7473 for information on how to register off line. We will do it for you.
Q: What is a team?
A: Teams can be made up family, friends, and any combination. Several families can form a team together. You can have up to 12 members on your team. Once you have more than 12 you must create a second team i.e.: Chipmunks, Jr. Chipmunks, etc.
Q. Is there an age requirement?
A: No, this is a family and community event! People of all ages can participate. Some teams are family teams, some are organization related and will have primarily adults, and some are youth related and will be primarily young people.
B: However, if you have a youth team, or anyone on the team is under 18 a chaperone release must be provided. This is a document signed by an adult confirming they will be responsible for any youths on the team throughout the entire event.
Q. Does the chaperone have to spend the entire night?
A: No, but then those under 18 have to leave with the chaperone.
Q: What does a team do?
A: Teams are formed and they raise money to help find a cure for cancer, and to help support Happiness is Camping. By reaching out to people to join your team, and to raise money, you help to spread the word about what we are doing.
Q: Do they have any other responsibilities?
A: To add to the fun of the evening, teams can create a theme and decorate their "campsite" which is an area dedicated to them. They can do last minute fundraising the night of the event by selling something unique or related to their team theme. For example, if your theme is "Hawaiian" you can sell Hawaiian punch and pineapple slices while dressed in grass skirts. Or your theme could be "married to finding a cure"…and have everyone dress in their wedding gowns and sell wedding cake. You can have a Christmas theme, decorate your site w/Christmas tree, stockings etc and sell a grab bag holiday gift.
Q: How do we collect money and what do we do with it?
A: You can collect money via credit card donations on line (the money will automatically be credited to the team member)
B. You can have checks or cash given directly to you. You may enter this amount on your web page so that it will show how much you’ve collected, and it will boost your team’s total earnings!
C. Once a month, there will be a team captain meeting. The team captain will collect all cash/check donations from the members so they can be accounted for and deposited.
D. There will be prizes for the individual and the team that raises the most money.
Q: What if we’re hungry?
A: There will be plenty of food available to purchase at the cafeteria, and plenty of coffee will be available. You can also bring your own food if you want to.
Q: What if I have more questions?
A: Go to www.henhudleos.org and click on the Stay-Awake-A-Thon button. There you should find the answers to all of your questions.
